Wood & salt from "Ausseerland and Hinterberger Tal"
GrundlseeUnder the title "wood and salt from Ausseerland and Hinterberger Tal", the Grundlsee Cultural Association is taking over a highly interesting forestry-cultural photo documentation created by Katharina Frosch from Bad Aussee.
The twelve illustrated panels were presented at a conference in Traunkirchen in April 2024 and report on the history of forestry in connection with the settlement of the valleys by means of clearing, primarily shaped by the salt industry.
The salt brine required vast quantities of “black wood” (spruce and fir), but also larch for the brine pipelines, and the use of the forests and the transportation of the required wood by land and water were the biggest challenges!
Salt - the Habsburgs' white gold - has therefore always shaped the life and work of the people in the Inner Salzkammergut.
