Vorau Abbey

Vorau

The Augustinian Canons' Monastery Vorau has been a pastoral, cultural, and spiritual center in northern Eastern Styria since 1163. Behind the beautiful facades of the main building, you can admire a colorful world of images and a lot of gold in the baroque church space.  In the sacristy, J. C. Hackhofer left a fresco depicting heaven and hell at the beginning of the 18th century.
The rocco library houses many books that testify to the significance of the orders for the culture and history of knowledge in Europe over many centuries. Among the manuscripts are, for example, the “Vorauer Kaiserchronik” and the “Vorauer Volksbibel,” which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

The baroque monastery church is freely accessible for visits during the day.

On the following days, the gate is closed, and no tours will take place:
December 24, afternoon
December 25 and 26, all day
