Schloss Oberradkersburg was first mentioned in history in the year 1100 as an important fortification.
Many nobles inhabited the castle; starting with the Spanheimer Counts in the 12th century.
In 1363, the Orlof brothers (German nobility). In 1392 Count Frederik Stubenberg.
1470 the Counts Polheim. 1490 the Counts Eberbach. 1614 - 1624 Count Hans Schrottenbach.
Johann Ulrich Prince of Eggenberg until the year 1717.
Leopold Count Herberstein from 1765 to 1781, who thoroughly remodeled the castle.
Count Herberstein sold the castle to Count Wurmbrand von Stuppach in 1789.
The Wurmbrand family sold the castle to Count Chorinski in 1914.
The widow sold the building along with all its inventory and lands to Urbanie Ljubljana during the collapse of the monarchy in 1931. This established a home for the disabled.
Later, it was converted into a school.
From the year 1974, the castle began to deteriorate.
The great challenge of not letting Schloss Oberradkersburg fall into further decay was taken on by businessman Milan Herzog (with Slovenian roots) in 1990.
With great motivation, commitment, and expert knowledge, the castle has been thoroughly renovated and maintained ever since, thus continuing the history of Schloss Oberradkersburg.
His philosophy: to create a place of encounter!
