Closed
Enjoy the lightness of life to your heart's content? Have a magnificent view? Or experience an alpine rush of a special kind? This easy hike on well-maintained trails for families, seniors and anyone who is comfortable makes it possible.
A bench with a magnificent view and a special kind of alpine bush await you on this tour: In early summer, the meadows on the Tauplitzalm are transformed into a sea of alpine flowers, where purple alpine bush blooms by the millions. But velvety blue gentian, hellebores, rock carnations, globe flowers, anemones and wild thyme also peek out from between the stones at the edge of the path. Heart-warming sights await you wherever you look.

More information

The journey to Tauplitz is best planned with google.at/maps. From there you can take the 4-seater chairlift to the high plateau.

By car, you can get to the Tauplitzalm from Bad Mitterndorf via the Tauplitzalm Alpine Road (toll).

Start at the parking lot or at the 4-seater chairlift. If you start at the parking lot, turn right a few meters after the barrier and follow the meadow path in an easterly direction. At the Tauplitzsee lake you will reach the asphalt road and follow it until you reach the Sterngassl.

There you turn left to the Steirerseebankerl and reach your destination. The popular Bankerl, where a rest is offered. From here you have a great view of the legendary Sturzhahn, the favorite climbing mountain of Heinrich Harrer, who was also the first to climb it - over the 200 m high west face. Also the view to the turquoise blue Steirersee, with its two islands, is simply fantastic.

A stop at the Steirersee huts, a little below the Steirerseebankerl, is always worthwhile. Either follow the narrow trail down to the huts, or hike back a short distance and walk along the gravel road to the huts.

You can also return to the starting point via the meadow path, or you can follow the asphalt road.

If you walk on the road, the hike is very nice to walk with a stroller.

The 4-seater chairlift also transports strollers free of charge.

From Tauplitz train station, the valley station of the 4-seater chairlift can be reached in about 20 minutes on foot. The bus stop is located directly at the valley station.

There are plenty of free parking spaces available in Tauplitz and on the Tauplitzalm.
