The Pöllau Valley Nature Park is located in the heart of Eastern Styria, the garden of Austria, approx. 60 km north-east of Graz and approx. 150 km south of Vienna
By car from Vienna
If you are driving from Vienna to Pöllau bei Hartberg, take the A2 towards Graz and drive about 110 kilometres until you reach the Hartberg exit. From there, follow the B54 in the direction of Pöllau.
By car from Graz
To get to Pöllau bei Hartberg from Graz, take the A2 motorway in the direction of Vienna. After about 30 kilometres, take the Gleisdorf West exit and then take the B54 towards Hartberg/Pöllau. Follow the B54 for about 25 kilometres until you reach Pöllau.
By car from Salzburg
To get to Pöllau bei Hartberg from Salzburg, take the A1 motorway towards Vienna. Drive about 110 kilometres to exit 109 (Salzburg junction). There change to the A9 motorway in the direction of Graz. At St. Michael, follow the S6 towards Kapfenberg. Continue on the S6 until the Krieglach exit. From there, take the B72 and then the L405 to Pöllau.
- We start this circular walk in the castle park at the signposts to the east of the Parkcafe.The signpost "Richtung Gschaid" leads us through Ortenhofenstraße (alternative via the Aupark past the outdoor pool on the left) in a northerly direction to a wayside shrine and the blue house of the Almbauermühle, where we follow the yellow/blue markings and the "Naturpark-Erlebnisrundweg" to the Hotel Restaurant Gruber on the left.
- At the bridge by the hotel, we head in a north-westerly direction and follow the white-blue-white and white-yellow-white markings with the numbers 2 and 3.
- At the fork in the path at the farm "Allmer" vulgo Toni on the Wiesn, we now choose marking no. 2.
- Shortly after the Grottenstüberl (former inn) we come to the Gschaid or GH Derler junction, where we take the route towards Derler (SAM stop 5974).
- We continue along trail no. 2, passing the Lehrhofer family farm (vulgo Stöß) and soon reach the red-white-red hiking trail no. 921 and turn left.
- We follow the latter for a short distance and turn left again onto the red-white-red hiking trail no. 922.
- This leads us - apart from the short detour via the Rabenwaldkogel - to the fork in the path where we come across hiking trail no. 1.
- Passing the transmitter (Pöllau - Stubenberg state road with the SAM stop: HF 5997), it takes us to the junction with the red-white-red marked hiking trail no. 923.
- Trail no. 923 leads us back to our starting point in Pöllau. (SAM bus stop "Pöllau, Zwinger": HF 5943).

For local transport we recommend the SAM-Sammeltaxi Oststeiermark.
