Starting from the Murradweg R2 cycle path, head south from Kaindorf towards Frauenalpe. The asphalt path ends at "Schaffer in Greith" after approx. 900 m, where a forest road begins that continues towards Frauenalpe. Follow the signs continuously. The crossing of the Rothofer stream after approx. 2.1 km is striking. This is followed after approx. 1.8 km by a viewpoint below the Olach hut, which offers a wonderful view from the Kreischberg over St. Lorenzen and St. Georgen to the Gstoder in the background. After another 1.8 km, you reach the Alpengasthaus Krische where you meet the last section of the asphalt road of the Frauenalpenstraße.
At the end of the road is the Murauer Hütte, from where a forest path leads to the Frauenalpe summit. After crossing the old pistes and pastures above the hut, turn right at the so-called "Käserei" after approx. 1 km. Accompanied by beautiful views and stone pine forests, the path leads to the summit. After a short, very steep ascent at the end, you reach the Bernhard-Fest refuge after approx. 3 km. From there it is approx. 150m to the chapel and finally, after a further 30m, you reach the Frauenalpe summit with a magnificent 360° panorama. On fine days, you can see as far as Slovenia.
The way back is the same. Alternatively, you can take the Bernhard Fest Trail or the Frauenalpenstraße from the Murauer Hütte to Murau.
