Mur-Auenrunde via Edling

This introductory hike gives you a good overview of St. Georgen ob Judenburg and allows you to make plans for further hikes.
This short circular hike leads from the town center to the Mur floodplains and onwards with a few meters of elevation gain to scenic spots in the municipality. Basically, you can get to know two hiking areas from St. Georgen ob Judenburg. On the one hand, there is the Schattseit'n, which belongs to the northern foothills of the Seetal Alps and can be hiked with the peaks Schafkogel (1746 m) and Weißeck (1743 m). On the opposite side of the valley lies the Sonnseit'n, which belongs to the Murberge and is accessible via numerous hiking trails. A beautiful destination is the Habring summit at 1497 m, which can be reached via the Nussmoaralm or the Schalenstein. Those who prefer a short hike with a view should take a look at the Rauchstubenweg, where you walk past one of the last largely intact Rauchstuben houses in Styria.

More information

From Judenburg via the B317 (14 km, approx. 15 minutes)

From Murau via the B96 (26 km, approx. 30 minutes)

From the village square in St. Georgen ob Judenburg, we walk to the traffic circle and then downhill through the village. After just a few minutes, we see the yellow signposts on the right at a crossroads and turn off here. We follow the side road, which passes below the church and continues slightly downhill across the meadows to the Mur. Once we reach the banks of the Mur, we follow the gravel road downstream until we see a fork on the right. Here we turn right, pass the pond and continue slightly uphill along the gravel road. At Edling, we cross the busy main road. Now we walk uphill along the asphalt road, past the few houses in Edling. After a short while, the asphalt road turns into a gravel road, which we walk along at a leisurely pace. Even though the path leads through the forest, we always have beautiful views of the Mur Valley and the opposite Sonnseit'n of the municipality of St. Georgen ob Judenburg. After we reach the populated area, we keep right downhill and take the road directly to the traffic circle and thus also to the starting point of the hike.
After the hike, you can stop off at one of the village's traditional inns and/or enjoy a delicacy from the "Murtal Eis" ice cream factory.
