Waldweg zur Mühle, Gasen
Open
A pleasant circular walk from the centre of Gasen in the Almenland Nature Park in Styria to the Schreinhofer Mill.
The path leads from the town center of Gasen out to the Schreinhofer mill with the largest, still intact mill wheel in Austria. For groups and upon prior reservation, the Mühlenschenke also serves drinks and makes the original Brennsterz.
The path is suitable for the whole family - even with a dog, as you don't directly come across any grazing cattle.
The path leads past the "Troadkostn", where the life-size, carved nativity figures can be admired during Advent and past the parish church, which has two patrons: St. Oswald is a much-revered patron of livestock and indicates the agricultural use of the area, while St. Barbara, as the protector of the miners, refers to mining in earlier days. Iron ore, gold, silver and arsenic were mined around Gasen until the 19th century.
On the way, beautiful views and one or two rest benches await the hikers, fresh mountain air, birdsong and soft forest floors are the bonus.
Back in town, the Gasen innkeepers invite you to a cozy stop!
