This varied gravel bike tour connects the Styrian Ausseerland region with the Upper Austrian Dachstein Salzkammergut. The route covers around 40 kilometers, leading along clear streams, through shady forests, and past impressive mountain and lake landscapes. The route runs mainly on gravel roads and quiet side roads and is ideal for sporty gravel bikers and ambitious mountain bikers who want to explore the Salzkammergut away from the main traffic routes.
The route starts in the center of Bad Aussee, the geographical center of Austria. From there, the route follows the road towards Altaussee. At the intersection at Gasthof Postillion's Einkehr, turn left and follow the road towards Lupitsch. After the climb past the last houses, the gravel fun begins on gravel roads. Shortly after the edge of the forest, the route leads downhill to the left towards Leisling. Continue to the intersection at Agathawirt in Bad Goisern and follow the footpath and bike path to the market square in Bad Goisern.
The tour passes through the villages of Reitern, Untersee, and Obersee, following the bike signs and the hiking and biking trail to Hallstatt train station. The East Bank Bike Trail then continues to Obertraun. Passing the beach, the trail continues to Gasthof Koppenrast. Here, turn left onto the Koppental Bike Trail. After the “old railway tunnel,” turn right up to the Koppen-Landesstraße road and follow it to Bad Aussee train station. From there, the trail leads back to the starting point in the town center.
