Remschniggalm - wine, alpine pasture and more.

Open
This bike tour combines wine and alpine farming and makes every mountain bike and gravel bike heart beat faster. Signposted tour no. 116
The Remschnigg Alm is the southernmost managed alpine pasture in Styria and is also located in the middle of the southwest Styrian wine country. This bike tour thus combines wine and alpine pasture farming and allows mountain bike lovers to experience both worlds in one tour. In addition to the wonderful views on the ascent to St. Pongratzen as well as from the church of St. Pongratzen, the section from St. Pongratzen via the Remschnigg Alm to the Pronintsch in particular makes mountain biking and gravel biking hearts beat faster.

The "Remschniggalm Tour. Wine, alpine pasture and more" is the mountain bike tour of your choice if you

  • fancy a varied tour with numerous different types of trails and perspectives on south-western Styria,
  • are looking for a tour with which you have overcome the biggest (not all) conditional hurdles with the first ascent and then want to enjoy the landscape and trails,
  • love the classic alpine feeling with cowbells, pastures, the scent of grass and wonderful views in combination with a good snack and refreshing drinks - of course also from local winegrowers,
  • are looking for a special challenge with a gravel bike and would like to test it not only on the usual terrain on asphalt and gravel sections but also on crunchy hiking trail sections,
  • want to enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the Saggau valley and the Eichberg mountain near St. Johann from the observation bench at Wechtitsch.

Directions from Slovenia/Eibiswald:

Drive over the Radlpass on the B76 towards Eibiswald.

  • From the starting point at the church in Eibiswald, start in an easterly direction towards Hörmsdorf and continue via Feisternitz over to Lateindorf.
  • Behind Lateindorf, the longest climb of the day begins over the Wutschenberg up to St. Pongratzen.
  • When you reach the top of the hill at Gasthof Legat, it is a good idea to make a detour up to the church and, if the church tower is open, to climb up to the viewing platform at the church tower. The reward is a fantastic 360-degree panoramic view of Slovenia and southwestern Styria.
  • The gravel road and trail section of the tour starts from Gasthof Legat in St. Pongratzen.
  • The route follows the border ridge over long stretches and thus repeatedly offers wonderful views into southern Styria as well as to Slovenia all the way over to the Pohorje mountain range.
  • From the Kapla border crossing, the mountain bike trail leads partly on single trails to the alpine hut and includes some steeper, challenging sections on the way there.
  • From the Remschnigg Alm, you then continue to roll eastwards to below the former Pronintsch inn, from where you descend on asphalt to Arnfels and on the cycle path back to Eibiswald.
  • A climb to the church of Sankt Pongratzen with its great viewing platform is definitely recommended!
  • Stop at the Reschmiggalm for refreshments
