The start of our hike is at around 1,543m above sea level at the Salzstieglhaus. We pass the Salzstieglhaus on the left and follow the long-distance hiking trail 505 in the direction of the Altes Almhaus, after 500m we come to a pasture fence with a passage for hikers. Here we keep to the left and follow trail no. 505B, which takes us to the summit of the Rappold. Over a distance of approx. 1.5km, we cover a difference in altitude of almost 400m. At first, the route is a little more leisurely across an alpine meadow, but eventually the path becomes steeper and rockier. Again and again we pass large rock formations, the so-called ovens, which look very impressive and make for a beautiful photo opportunity.
After just over an hour, we reach the summit cross of the Rappold at 1,928m above sea level. Now it's time to take a break and enjoy the view. And don't forget to sign the summit register.
For the descent, we then take the path towards the Altes Almhaus, which is a little steeper downhill at first. We have to choose our footholds carefully, as the terrain here is also somewhat stonier. After a short time, the path becomes easier and more comfortable. We hike through a beautiful alpine forest and finally come to another hiking trail junction. Here, at the Gerti-Türl, we continue on trail no. 505, which takes us straight to the Alter Almhaus. If you want to extend the trail, go through the Gerti-Türl in the direction of the Großebenhütte and then on to the Altes Almhaus
The way back follows the same route, but we no longer have to hike over the summit of the Rappoldkogel, but can take the Koralm-Kristall-Trail back to the Salzstieglhaus.
