Nature and adventure trail

The Sattelberg in Ramsau am Dachstein is THE mountain for children. The first nature and adventure trail in Austria is great for children, parents and grandparents. The Zwergerl-Bauernhof next to Sattelberghütte (with information and game boards especially for small children) is a fantastic place for children to play.

The Sattelberg is the perfect excursion mountain for a nature experience with the family. The first Austrian nature and environmental adventure trail is not only exciting and interesting for children, parents and grandparents will also be amazed and learn a lot. The educational trail also leads to the Sattelberg summit via a circular route and has even more to offer: the Ramsaurier Zwergerl farm (with display and game boards in toddler size) is a play paradise for the youngest and is located right next to the Sattelberg hut. In addition to the large forest playhouse and the "Little Ramsau Water World", the hike along the Ramsau nature and environmental adventure trail also includes three real children's and youth via ferratas, which can be completed as part of the Ramsau via ferrata certificate. Part of the trail is also accessible with a stroller.

More information

Arriving from the west:From the west you can take the Munich-Salzburg motorway, continuing on the Tauern motorway (A 10) until the Ennstal junction. From here take the Ennstal A-road (the B 320) for around 30 km into the Schladming-Dachstein region, then take the Ramsau am Dachstein turn-off.

Arriving from the north:From the south-east take the Pyhrnautobahn motorway (A 9) to the Liezen junction and then the Ennstal A-road (B 320) into the Schladming-Dachstein region. Then take the Ramsau am Dachstein turn-off.

It starts right at the Ramsau office. Head north to the Kulmkirche St. Rupert and then turn right onto the path downhill towards Obere Leiten. Follow path #3 past the Almfrieden Hotel and the Sattelberg car park (20 minutes) to the start of the circular route, where a large Kali figure awaits you. The circular route takes around 2 hours to reach the Sattelberg summit. From stations 1 to 3 you will pass through hilly and flat forest terrain with several clearings. From station 3 you hike uphill along the ridge of the Sattelberg. But don't worry, at stations 5 to 6 you can regain your strength on the flat terrain to be fit for the climb to number 7, the Sattelberg summit. You will walk along a path with lots of views and adventures, past berries, flowers, rock towers, bizarre rock towers and much more. From the summit, the serpentine path winds through the forest to the observation tower. and from there along the southern edge of the forest from the Sattelberg over tree roots and clearings to the Sattelberghütte (station 12), which invites you to rest and linger. Finally, through slightly rising forest terrain past the last two stations back to the starting point. Between this and the Sattelberghütte, the path is suitable for strollers.
During the holiday periods of July and August, the Kali Express takes you from the Sattelberghütte back to the starting point of the hike or to the Old Mill. This is also where you will find the entrance to the Kali children's via ferrata and the Kala and Kalo youth via ferratas.
