Beautiful Styrian nativity scene by Elisabeth (Lisl) Sager and Prof. Franz Weiß in the Benedictine Abbey of Seckau.
The Styrian nativity scene in the Benedictine Abbey of Seckau was created in 1974 by the artists Elisabeth Sager and Prof. Franz Weiß at the suggestion of Univ. the suggestion of Prof. Hans Koren (Styrian Provincial Government, Department of Culture). It was consecrated on the 4th Sunday of Advent 1974 in the Chapel of Grace of the Seckau Basilica by Abbot Placidus Wolf OSB.
Since 2009, the nativity scene has been on display in the meditation room / student chapel in the in the west wing of Seckau Abbey - before that, it was moved from the Chapel of from the Chapel of Mercy to the right aisle and later to the south tower chapel the south tower chapel of the basilica.
Mr Willibald Eisenbeutel has been responsible for the installation for almost forty years together with other employees of the abbey. The The arrangement of the figures and the decoration is different every year and allows visitors to rediscover the nativity scene time and time again. The Styrian nativity scene can be seen every year from Christmas Eve Christmas Eve (24 December) to Candlemas (2 February).
