Toplitzsee

The Toplitzsee is located east of the Grundlsee in the district of Gößl in the Styrian municipality of Grundlsee and is a popular excursion destination in the Ausseerland.
The lake is set in the nature reserve Totes Gebirge and is characterized by its pristine nature and special hydrological properties.

From the parking lot in Gößl, two hiking trails about 1.6 kilometers long lead to the lake: either through the village of Gößl along the Gößler Wand or via a forest path with a detour to the Ranftlmühle.
The paths are closed to public traffic but accessible to pedestrians and cyclists.

At the Toplitzsee, excursions with traditional wooden boats, known as Plätten, are offered. These allow for further travel to the Kammersee as part of the 3-Lakes Tour.

The lake is known for its special stratification: at about 20 meters deep, the water is oxygen-free and has an increased salt content.
These conditions cause the water to appear dark.

Near the Toplitzsee, there are additional tourist attractions such as the Kammersee and the Geo-Trail Grundlsee.
