Höchkogel track (Höchkogelweg) - In the footsteps of the volcanoes

The network of hiking trails on the "traces of the volcanoes" in Thermen- & Vulkanland Steiermark shows the image of a man. A buffet of pictures opens up between extinct volcanoes.
The Höchkogelweg is a leisurely sunny hike at the foot of the Gleichenberger Kogel. It lies on the backbone on the traces of the volcanoes in the sign of man and nature.  This small loop in Gossendorf is especially suitable for those who want to admire the gentle hilly landscape between the Gleichenberger Kogeln and the Raab Valley without major climbs. With only a few short climbs, this hike runs mainly on a ridge of hills. Mainly on untraveled side roads and field paths you hike along comfortably.

Detailed information on how to get to us can be found here.

From Kulmberghof we hike along the hill quite level, first on a small road, later on a dirt road. Before going downhill, we have a wonderful view from the elevated tank towards Riegersburg. A little further down we reach a small road again at the schoolhouse. However, we immediately turn off again and continue hiking on the ridge along the edge of the forest until we come to the road. From here we go downhill past the Buschenschank Stöckler and then slightly uphill back to the schoolhouse. This time we follow the road downhill and then branch off onto a dirt road until we reach the Maria-Hilf chapel. From here it is only a short distance uphill to the Kulmberghof. If you want to take it easy, you can also turn around at the schoolhouse and hike back via the Maria-Hilf chapel.

Here in Gossendorf, the "Gossendorfer Naturfango" is also mined, a volcanic healing clay that purifies and detoxifies the skin and inhibits inflammation. As a result, the fango is particularly effective against pain in muscles and joints, rheumatism as well as skin impurities and has long been appreciated in the thermal spas in the area.

Every year, the Gossendorf Nativity Trail leads along this route, where more than 50 nativity scenes adorn the path from the 1st Sunday in Advent to the Three King's Day. With a lot of love, nativity stations are created from natural materials by the local residents.

The district of Gossendorf is also very popular as an excursion destination in winter due to the Gossendorf Crib Trail with over 50 cribs in the open air.
