Start from the top station of the 4-seater chairlift or from the parking lot on the Tauplitzalm across the high plateau in an easterly direction.Near the top station of the 4-seater chairlift is a small
mountain church.
Shortly after the Grazerhütte - by the way, mountaineering icon Heinrich Harrer worked here as a hut warden in the 1930s - you already reach the ascent to the summit of the Traweng.
The path with the number 72 is narrow, soon very steep, but well marked. In a scree gully you should use your hands as a hiking aid. After about half an hour - passing a small cave - you reach the flatter part of the climb. We recommend taking the circular route. Boulders, karst surfaces and sinkholes accompany you on the way to the top.
The panorama is overwhelming and that is not an exaggeration: Totes Gebirge, Grimming, Dachstein and the Niedere Tauern - all in front of your nose!
The descent from Traweng is via the same path.
