The Spechtensee Loop is a varied mountain bike tour in the Ausseerland region that appeals to both ambitious athletes and leisure cyclists. The route leads through impressive landscapes, charming villages, and to a real natural gem: Lake Spechtensee. As an MTB loop tour, this route is ideal for an eventful day trip.
The tour starts directly from the Grimminghalle car park in Bad Mitterndorf. It leads through the district of Neuhofen and along side roads to the east. Following the route, you pass the striking Kulm ski jump. From here, the path becomes narrower until you reach Tauplitz railway station via the signposted R19 route. The path then leads steadily uphill towards Wörschachwald and Spechtensee.
Once you reach the highest point, take a break at the idyllically situated Spechtensee lake – a perfect place to rest in the midst of nature. The route then descends via a partly steep gravel path to the village of Wörschach. The tour leads through the village, past the train station, and straight across the Enns bridge. From here, follow the Enns cycle path R7 to Trautenfels.
In summer, it is worth visiting the exhibition in the Trautenfels Castle Museum, which is located directly on the route. From there, continue along route R19 via Krungl back to Bad Mitterndorf. The combination of lake experience, mountain panorama, and cultural stop makes this tour particularly varied.
