Circular hiking trail "sheep sense" at Hauser Kaibling

Closed
Experience, enjoy and be amazed - maybe you meet the flock of sheep, which populated the Hauser Kaibling in summertime.

That has sheep sense!

The carefully re-naturalized slopes on the Hauser Kaibling not only look good, but also offer our sheep lush pastures. This sustainable research project is on the one hand the summer livelihood of the happy and healthy Ennstal Alm lamb and on the other a first impulse for ecological, regional and valuable products and healthy food.

One part of this large overall project is the wonderful Schafsinn circular trail with special signage and sheep box in the area of the radio station on Hauser Kaibling. Starting from the village of Haus im Ennstal, you can enjoy the ride up to our Hauser Kaibling and embark on a hiking adventure with magnificent panoramic views of the entire Enns Valley. Along the way, you will be given interesting information about the EU Leader project Ennstal-Lamm and, with a bit of luck, you may even come across the 800-strong herd of sheep, including shepherd and dog. If you then announce your presence in the Schladminger Tauern by ringing the bell at the keep, you should remember the admonishing words “Nature alone gives you joy, devotion, love and loyalty. Protect it with heart and mind!”. The Schafsinn circular trail consists of an easy section for baby carriages and strollers and a moderately difficult section for sure-footed hikers. Of course, you can also walk the whole loop. And when it's time to take a break, our hut hosts at the Kaibling Alm, Krummholzhütte or TOMiziel invite you to stop for a bite to eat. The Schafsinn circular trail - a well-rounded experience!

More information

Ennstalbundesstraße (B320) - Haus im Ennstal:

  • valley station Schladminger Tauern cable car (above the catholic church in Haus im Ennstal)
  • valley station Hauser Kaibling cable car (directly next to the main road)

The great difference in altitude can be comfortably overcome with the Schladminger Tauern cable car or the Hauser Kaibling 8-seater gondola lift & the Kaiblinggrat 8-seater chairlift. A magnificent view over the entire upper Enns Valley awaits us. From the mountain station, we walk slightly uphill for a few minutes, where the Schafsinn circular trail branches off to the left at the TV station in an easterly direction. There we soon see the large “Schafbox”, the actual starting point of the circular trail. This is signposted throughout and then leads slightly up and down in a clockwise direction around the Hauser Kaibling to the Rossfeldsattel. From there, the trail descends gently to the Kaiblingalm. This is easily accessible for families with baby carriages from the other side via the forest path, which also takes you back to the cable car mountain station.

The circular trail consists of two sections:
1. for sure-footed hikers (1 h 45 min)
2. for baby carriages and leisurely walkers (40 min)wonderful panoramic views and refreshment stopsOutlook platforms with seating and information boards about the project and the surrounding mountains.

Unique in the Schladming-Dachstein vacation region - you won't find such a large herd of sheep (approx. 800 sheeps) anywhere else in our region.
