Winkelbauer Mill

The Winkelbauermühle is located in the nature park community of St. Kathrein am Offenegg.

The so-called Kathreiner Mühlental lies along the Lambach stream. It gets its name from the 20 mills that once stood there and processed grain into flour - completely without electricity, using only the power of water to drive the mill wheels. Today there are still two operational mills, which have been painstakingly restored by the people of Kathrein on a voluntary basis - the Winkelbauermühle is one of the two mills.

You can take a look inside at any time through the entrance behind the mill. However, if you would like to get a more detailed insight into times gone by, you can learn more about the history and technology of the mill on a guided tour of the schow mill.

The best way to explore the mills along the Lambach is on the Mill Village Tour, which was even nominated for 9 Places - 9 Treasures in 2023. You start at the Karl-Wirt Gasthaus & leisure center, where you can also stop for a bite to eat and enjoy the delicious Almenland fish after the hike! Along the way, you will come across impressive sculptures made of horseshoes by AlmART artist Sascha Exenberger.
