Lantern path, Hartberg
The Ringkogel is Hartberg's local mountain and the Ringwarte is the town's landmark. Both point out that we are in Celtic country, but the Romans were not far away either. On the way to the Ringwarte, you wander through the archaeological excavations of the remaining Ringwall. This not only contributed to the naming of the Ringkogel, but also served to protect the Celts. The ring wall of the Hartberg Celtic settlement was about one kilometre long and originally had two gates. One was destroyed when a quarry was built, the second is still clearly recognisable as the Zangentor. Information boards along the way tell about the quarry and explain the large Zangentor complex of the Celtic settlement.
99 steps up to the Ah. Before you descend back into the old town, you should definitely climb the Ringwarte. The landmark of Hartberg is over 110 years old and was built in 1906. There is so much to see at the top that you will have to look for a long time: Ah, the Hartberg region looks good!
Tip: Treasure hunt and geocaching On the Ringkogel you will encounter the Celts and Romans and, if you have GPS and luck, also a treasure. To track it down, you need a GPS-compatible device and a register at www.geocaching.com. Search for the tour "From the centre to the top". Have fun searching and finding!
