Nature juwels in Styria

Forests

Our forests provide sustainable wood, protect against erosion and avalanches, are the source of clean air and ensure pure drinking water. The oldest trees in the Styrian forests are already several hundred years old. Their trunks are covered with mosses, young and older offspring grow next to them, and sprouts cover the ground. In some places, fallen trees lie criss-crossed - nature's order actually looks quite untidy.

Styria is called "the Green Heart of Austria" for a reason - almost 63 percent of the province is forest. Styria is the most densely forested province in Austria. Therefore, it is not surprising that it is home to some particularly valuable forests.

The rich flora and fauna ranges from tree sponges to - depending on the season - snow lilies with their white flowers in spring and green ferns in midsummer. You can choose what you would like to marvel at during an excursion into these areas of unspoiled nature. Whether it is Swiss stone pine or beech, black stork or pine jay, is up to your individual liking.

From the Auwald in the UNESCO Biosphere Park Murauen near the wine-growing areas to the larch and stone pine forests at almost 2,000 metres above sea level… there is something for everyone. There is nothing left to say, except: enjoy the tranquillity and recharge your batteries in Styria’s beautiful forests.
