Franziska Bronnen reads.
Anna Mittermeier, double bass, composition by Pierre-Dominique Ponnelle.
Letters by Thomas Mann, Joseph Roth, Stefan Zweig and others as contemporary witnesses that tell of hope and despair. Letters are contemporary witnesses. Through them, we learn about the winding paths and the self-sacrificing helpers who often succeeded in escaping. “Letters are worth so much because they preserve the immediacy of existence.” Rarely has this saying of Goethe's been confirmed as emphatically as in times of war, persecution and expulsion. No one came back from exile the same . The letters also tell of this.
