by and with Jovita Dermota. Anna Mittermeier, double bass
The creator of “Jedermann” for the Salzburg Festival, the libretto for “Der Rosenkavalier”, the comedies “Der Schwierige” and “Der Unbestechliche”, lived in his own world: “...that is precisely this strange magical world of mine.”
An attempt to sketch the extraordinary life and work of Hugo von Hofmannsthal, with clear and blurred contours. A dense network of images on top of each other, a kind of hologram is created. From the collapse of the old world to the dawn of the new age, the textual building blocks in Hugo von Hofmannsthal's work are layered on top of each other.
Texts, letters, speeches and excerpts from his poetic work reveal his search for the roots of our identity - as well as his appeal to take personal and political responsibility.
