Annabergdenkmal
St. Michael in der ObersteiermarkIn honor of the dead, a reminder to the living.
In 1917 the so-called "war memorial" was erected on the "Annaberg". Prisoners of war and healthy people built it under the most difficult conditions and - as few of our population still know - under great losses.
The Annaberg Monument was erected by recovering soldiers - mainly prisoners of war - between 1916 and 1917. It was intended as a "war memorial" to commemorate "Dear Fatherland's great time" - so the inscription on the monument. The monument has a base area of 8 by 4 meters, a height of 26 meters and is thus a widely visible sign of that era.
In 2015 the monument was renovated, since then it shines in new splendor.
