Oberwölz-LachtalThe Austrian Brass Band Museum Oberwölz was opened in 1997 and presents around 600m² of new exhibition rooms and two to three special exhibition rooms featuring impressive objects from the history of Austrian brass band music, which has developed since the 19th century into one of the largest movements of amateur music alongside military music tradition. Over 2100 brass bands represent a flourishing present of a development that spans more than 150 years.
The permanent exhibition shows exhibits on the history of brass music in Austria from the 19th century to the present day. A sound and picture show offers an overview of the history "From classical harmony music to contemporary brass band music". For younger museum visitors: fun and games at the museum rally. Special exhibitions: Brass music attracts. A traditional sound from yesterday to today and special exhibition: Women, brass band music and voluntary work.
