‘Around the Pöllauer Hirschbirne’
On Sunday, October 26, 2025, the Pöllauer Tal Nature Park
in the East Styria experience region once again transforms into a stage for a very special hiking experience:
The traditional hiking day "Around the Hirschbirne" invites you to a day full of movement,
enjoyment, and musical entertainment amidst a unique natural landscape.
For over 25 years, this popular event has attracted thousands of hiking enthusiasts to the picturesque region
around Pöllau. This year, visitors can expect a diverse
hiking event, where not only the Pöllauer Hirschbirne, the flagship product of the nature park,
is at the center of attention, but also the diverse habitats for plants and animals,
that make this natural space so special. Relaxing nature, delicious culinary specialties
from the region, and plenty of entertainment await visitors.
The hiking day begins at 08:30 with a Holy Mass in the Pöllau parish church.
At 09:15, ORF moderator Paul Prattes will officially open the event,
followed by a hiking blessing from Pastor Deogratias Ntikazohera.
Participants will then start on two selectable routes:
a family-friendly route of 7.3 km or a 12.9 km panoramic tour.
Along the trails, refreshment stations with regional delicacies,
including Hirschbirne specialties, spreads, natural beer, and farm products will provide sustenance.
Music and good vibes accompany hikers along the way.
Additionally, the path offers exciting insights into the work of the nature park:
Information points demonstrate how projects like Bee-Wild contribute to species protection,
for example, through flowering areas and stone biotopes.
In the Pöllauer Tal Nature Park, the first European-wide habitat region,
this sustainability concept is actively lived.
The grand closing festival begins at 12:00 in the Pöllau Castle Park.
Visitors can look forward to an atmospheric program,
with musical entertainment from "Die jungen Aufbradler" and a concert by the "Edlseer,"
regional delicacies, a varied children's program,
a big raffle, and autumn atmosphere.
