Castle Festenburg
St. Lorenzen am WechselExplore the Festenburg and its history.
The fortress was built around 1200 by the Lords of Stubenberg. It was then called "Vöstenburg". The castle has repeatedly changed hands over the centuries. The medieval "Vöstenburg" has belonged to Vorau Abbey since 1616. Around 1700 the fortified castle was converted into a monastery castle. The fortified tower was transformed into a church tower, the knight's hall into a church and decorated with magnificent frescoes by the Vorau monastery painter Hackhofer.
Let yourself be enchanted by the over 800-year-old castle on a guided tour and visit the many magnificent and beautiful individual chapels in Festenburg Castle.
