The Mönichwald parish church was consecrated in 1163 by Archbishop Eberhard II of Salzurg. The document is kept in the archives of the Augustinian canons' monastery in Vorau.
For 640 years, the monks of St. Benedict were the good shepherds of this parish and shared the joys and sorrows of its inhabitants. In 1803, the parish became part of the diocese of Graz-Seckau, to which it still belongs today.
The current parish church is dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul and was built in 1716.
