In the special exhibition in the “House of the Apple”, the mysterious apple men provide an insight into their daily activities and their philosophy of life.

The spirit of the apple men

One day, the apple men from Puch and the surrounding area came together and thought about how to do justice to the apple even better than before.
The result was the conspiratorial and mystical community of apple men, to which the participants contributed all their skills and knowledge and all their sensory abilities in order to spiritualize the ABAKUS, the chamber sound of alcoholic enjoyment.

Distilling is more secret than secret.

The Abakus claims to be the highest spiritualization of the Styrian apple. It is a signpost in terms of quality, taste as well as seriousness and diligence. During a tasting, a clever man tried to give the Abakus the right title and gave it the designation “zero meridian of good taste”.

The production of the abacus is a well-kept secret. Even though the apple men keep their secrets, they show what moves them, how they live and what traditions they follow on a journey in and around the “House of the Apple”. Their set of rules plays an important role in this.

But the most important thing is nature, which is the essential basis of our lives and of the abacus.

The mysterious abacus method. Of apples and people.

The development from bud to ripeness is closely observed. The apple men tend the orchards, watch the wind and weather and look after the trees entrusted to them by nature. When the harvest approaches, it is time to select the variety of the year, because only the most perfect fruit can be used to make the abacus. The apple is elevated to higher spiritual spheres through distilling. It is not the knowledge and skill of the individual that is decisive, but the contribution of the skills of all apple men to the community - this is known as the abacus method.

Once the young abacus has been distilled, it is placed in the “House of the Apple”. The hosts Josef and Wolfgang carefully monitor the ambient temperature. The abacus is now allowed to rest for a year in the cool climes of the apple house. The structure and body of the young spirit develop slowly. Under no circumstances should the spirits be awakened before the time is right - no matter who asks for it.

In this year of rest, the apple men are already out and about in the orchards again, tending to the next harvest. In this life cycle, the rules of the apple men provide support and point the way...
