St. Ruprecht an der RaabEvery year from around the beginning / middle of March there is a special kind of natural spectacle in St. Ruprecht an der Raab - more precisely in the Mühlwald near Etzersdorf (on the L361): thousands of spring knot flowers can be admired on an area of around 3.5 hectares !
Enjoy this special place, which is also called "Schneeglöckerlplatz" because of the name "Großes Schneeglöckerl" for the spring knot flower, because it is the largest occurrence of this flower in Styria. The moist and particularly nutrient-rich soil in the Mühlwald under the ash and alder forests that accompany the stream is a special habitat and has now become a rare habitat for characteristic flora and fauna.
The spring knot flower, also known as the March cup, the March bells or the large snowdrop, inhabits large populations of moist deciduous forests, swamp meadows and occasionally orchards. In terms of the nature of the soil, you need loose, deep loam or clay soils that have to be rich in nutrients and seep-moist. The plant belongs to the daffodil family and has 6 white petals with a greenish-yellow or yellow spot at the tip. The onion in the ground is about 2.5 cm thick. The spring knot flower blooms from February to April. In the different parts of the plant there are ingredients in the form of alkaloids - the plant is therefore poisonous.
