Peek behind the curtain of a traditional mill and find out what a miller’s job actually looks like. A family business in the third generation, Posch Mühle in Hartberg mills high-quality grain products into flour. The head miller Roman Posch will give you a tour of the 500-year old mill and you can take a closer look at all the different grains being milled here. From the rotating corrugated roller to the oscillating plan sifter — there’s lots to see, feel and try out. You’ll even get a chance to mill your own buckwheat flour. After processing all that information and processing the grain, it’s time to relax. Treat yourself to a stroll around the city of Hartberg to pick up some ingredients to accompany lunch, such e.g. bacon, cheese, herbs, etc. Back at the mill and under Roman Posch’s guidance, you’ll turn these ingredients, and the buckwheat flour you previously milled, into a delicious dish called “Sterz”.

About the serviceprovider

The third generation of the Posch family has been producing the high-quality grain products according to artisan tradition. The company was continuously developed and expanded. We always pay attention to organic production in harmony with nature.

The almost 500-year-old mill is not a museum, but still a production facility in which grinding, sieving, further processing and sale takes place every day. Large and small amounts of grain are processed into the finest flour in the mill. Not only grain, but also gluten-free and other special products are processed in the Posch mill.

Tradition and Technology
From the point of view of Slow Food and Slow Travel, the Posch family were able to revitalize the older part of the mill as part of an EU funded project. During the design, special attention was paid to the use of natural materials and the integration of analogue techniques. For example, the process graphics of the mill were not printed digitally, but drawn by hand with chalk on a large blackboard by the design team from "Augenhaptik" and our logo is already visible at the entrance on an original enamel sign.
