Exhibition: Art is female! Girlish whim or masterpiece?
KöflachCelebrate the finissage and award ceremony at the Kunsthaus Köflach in the Graz Region!
On Saturday, 26 April 2025, Kunsthaus Köflach invites you to the festive finissage of the exhibition ‘Die Kunst ist weiblich! Girlish whim or masterpiece?’. An inspiring evening awaits you from 19:00 with an award ceremony and musical accompaniment by Julia Schnapper and Alexander Nartey.
The exhibition honours the impressive work of three female artists - Olga Holzhausen, Margarethe Martiny-Holzhausen and Elisabeth-Charlotte Martiny - who have managed to assert themselves in an art world dominated by men and create lasting masterpieces.
The ‘My image of a woman’ competition was launched as part of the exhibition. Over 80 children and young people aged between 8 and 18 submitted their creative entries - from portraits of female role models to personal visions of the future. The best three works in each age group will now be honoured and the young talents duly celebrated.
The finissage offers not only a look back at the exhibition, but also the opportunity to admire the award-winning works of the young artists. Admission is free and all interested parties are cordially invited to experience this special evening in Styria.
The exhibition shows the artistic transformation over three generations:
- Olga Holzhausen - around 1900 a celebrated portrait painter in Vienna with a studio in a prime location.
- Margarethe Martiny-Holzhausen - combined traditional craftsmanship with modern artistic trends and lent her animal studies and fairy-tale depictions a poetic power.
- Elisabeth-Charlotte Martiny - integrated global experiences into her works and developed an experimental style that went as far as abstraction.
Mayor Helmut Linhart and art historian Dr Nicole Kaddoura will speak at the opening. The Quasi Presto string quartet will provide the musical accompaniment for the evening.
This exhibition in the Graz Region tells of courage, passion and the unwavering pursuit of recognition. The artists lead a self-determined life, have travelled the world and incorporate foreign cultures and new ideas into their works.
