Experience the exhibition “Thread by numbers” at the Folklore Museum Graz and immerse yourself in the fascinating history of cross-stitching.
Since November 22, 2024, the exhibition “Thread by numbers. Cross stitch from yesterday to today” at the Folklore Museum Graz invites visitors to rediscover the cultural history of one of the oldest handicraft techniques. The show opens the new exhibition space, the Collection Cabinet, and runs until May 31, 2026.
More than 300 exhibits from the museum's collection tell of the diversity and development of cross-stitch. From samplers from the late 18th century to hand-embroidered gifts, home textiles and items of clothing, the exhibition spans the centuries. In addition to historical perspectives, the exhibition shows how this needlework technique is experiencing a creative renaissance today thanks to DIY trends and craftivism.
Visitors can expect not only an impressive selection of exhibits, but also the opportunity to get hands-on: You can try out the technique of cross-stitching on site or take part in one of the creative workshops.
With this exhibition, the Folklore Museum in the heart of the Graz Adventure Region offers a unique insight into the craft and cultural history of Styria. A must for lovers of traditional craftsmanship, creative people and anyone who appreciates the combination of past and present. Plan your visit and be inspired!
