Burg Strechau
LassingIf Strechau Castle were a knight, it would sit right next to the king at the round table. The second largest castle in Styria is both a feast for the eyes and a highly interesting place to visit. In addition to a breathtaking view, a beautiful castle chapel and a large wine cellar, you can also marvel at Europe's most complete collection of vintage Steyr cars. Yes, these polishes are also part of Austria's history.
A castle unbeatably stunning
Friedrich Schiller once said: "The surprises of life have already lifted the most secure knights out of the saddle". You can imagine only too well how the appearance of Strechau Castle has knocked many a knight off his perch (out of the saddle). This castle is simply stunning! The breathtaking view, the baroque-style castle chapel, the huge wine cellar and the Italian-style arcaded courtyard mean that this fortress captures the hearts of all visitors and not the other way round.
Time travel with tin and iron
It is barely 100 metres in altitude that distinguish Strechau Castle from the village of Lassing. Even from afar, it is capable of awe-inspiring its observers. Up there, where oaks, beeches and maple trees spectacularly set the scene for the seasons, the castle has been enthroned since the middle of the 11th century. Whether a place of power, a cultural highlight or simply an exciting destination for an excursion, it's a bit like time has been turned back up here. Yes, this fortress makes time travel possible. Because the second largest castle in Styria not only makes the hearts of castle fans beat faster, but many a car enthusiast also gets their money's worth. Europe's most complete collection of Styer vintage cars is on display here, with paintwork and shapes that would have made many a knight's armour rattle with envy. Guided tours of the castle and the classic car collection take place every hour on the hour during the high season.
On foot or on horseback
Although you can easily drive to the castle by car, its "lofty" location makes it a particularly suitable destination for a walking tour. From the Strechau Klamm stop, a very idyllic path of about 1.7 km leads up to the castle - the view that awaits you at the top is phenomenal.
Strechau Castle is open from 1 May to 31 October, Tuesdays to Sundays from 10:00 to 16:00. The castle can only be visited on a guided tour. These take place every hour from 10:00 (last tour at 15:00).
