The Hartberg Museum has been housed since October 6, 1988, in the historic Steinpeißhaus, a Hartberg manor, and is operated by the Historical Association of Hartberg on a volunteer basis.
The permanent exhibition of the Hartberg Museum is located in these historically significant walls and offers visitors an interesting and informative historically documented overview of the history of Hartberg. The starting point for the tour through the historical exhibition is a classroom furnished with appropriate interior and corresponding teaching utensils, which was actually in use in the mid-20th century. Subsequently, significant events and developments of the 20th century as well as the history of the town and region of Hartberg are explored in reverse. Visitors gain insight into the history of war and defense, focusing on the fight against the Turks and Kurucs, as well as social and legal history, which specifically addresses the Middle Ages and early modern period in Hartberg. Interesting facts about Roman times and the settlement of the Ringkogel before the common era and regional finds from the Metal Ages and the Neolithic complete the historical tour.
Numerous exhibits, the use of modern media, and various areas for active engagement provide guests with an impressive experience.
