Glitzhütte
WiesCurrent information
-GLITZFEST 2024 - with mountain church service and blessing of herbs on Assumption Day on August 15, 2024, from 10:30 a.m.
For better understanding: Colloquially we say Gliatz instead of Glitz. It's just easier to speak.
Located on a south-east slope of the Styrian Koralm, embedded in the gentle landscape of the Gliatzalm, the Gliatzhütte is above the tree line at about 1592m above sea level. The wide and long valley is framed by the Gliatzfelsen, the small and large Frauenfelsen, the Ochsenstein and to the south by the Krennkogel. The view continues over forests down to the valleys of the Saggau, Weißen and Schwarzen Sulm.
The electricity-free hut itself has served as a herdsman's hut for the farmers of the Gliatzalm pasture community for more than 200 years. The Herder still has a room in the hut today. About 70 years ago, the number of servings to guests increased due to motorisation. By dividing the areas of serving and "animal watching", no area is neglected and our guests and the animals are well looked after on the Gliatz!
The hut can accommodate around 30 people inside and around 40 people outdoors.
The heart of the alpine hut is the beautiful table stove, around which a lot happens during the season. Here on the Alm, our guests get that certain attitude to life that many long for. We try to meet your expectations as best as possible.
Our motto is quickly explained:
LIVE SIMPLY AND SIMPLY BE SATISFIED WITH WHAT IS THERE
Catering: In addition to traditional dishes such as snacks, spreads, bacon snacks, soup, goulash, roast pork, as well as our homemade pastries and our home-baked bread, we are also increasingly offering our guests meat-free dishes of the day. We cook with whatever food is available.
-NEW for EARLY BREAKFAST: ALM BREAKFAST on the mountain from 6:00am - 9:30am (advance reservations required in order to be able to offer an extended breakfast)
You don't just drive down to the valley from the Alm to do your shopping. As a result, we operate sustainably and our guests have to keep up.
If you intend to visit us with a group of more than 5 people, please give us a call.
-NEW: The Glitzhütte will probably also be accessible by bike from June 2024
- Coming from Graz, Deutschlandsberg
Coming via the B76 to Bad Schwanberg, turn right at the traffic lights into the town center, up to the mountain village of St. Anna ob Schwanberg, Gasthaus Schmuckbauernwirt, Almhütte Wirtbartl, GLIATZ - From the direction of Eibiswald
Coming, drive on the B76 to Wies. Just before the roundabout (in front of the Hofer Markt) turn left in the direction of Wernersdorf. You reach Wielfresen via Guntschenberg. Passing the Gasthaus Strutz, continue straight ahead until you come to a turnoff to the right towards St. Anna. Here you leave the state road and continue uphill on the Deutschmannweg for approx. 900 m until you come to a crossroads. There you turn left (to the right you go to the village of St.Anna) and after approx. 1 km you will reach the Gasthaus Schmuckbauerwirt.
From Schmuckbauerwirt, drive straight ahead on a well-paved forest road for about 11 km to the Wirtbartl alpine hut. There you can park your car. You now have several options for walking to the Gliatzalm.
- From the Wirtbartl you walk approx. 5 km on a well-signposted forest road uphill to the hut or
from Wirtbartl, follow hiking trail no. 588 to the Gliatzhütte.
For very sporty hikers, we recommend hiking trail no. 580 from Wirtlbartl up to the Brendlhütte, via the "Kramerin" (a stone shelter) on path no. 588 to the Gliatzalm.
Another variant goes from the Schircleralm on path no. 591 to the Brendlhütte and, as described above, to the Gliatzhütte.
Coming from the Dreieckhütte in the south, walk along the Jauksattel, then you will get to the Bodenhütte and from the Bodenhütte you will be on the Gliatz in 1 hour - but this is a day hike. And there you are!!
Despite inflation, energy price increases, staff shortages, etc., we are making every effort to keep our sales prices for food and drink as moderate as possible. We are therefore increasingly relying on the help of our guests in the form of self-service in the event of bottlenecks in serving our guests.
Additional Information
The Gliatz hut is NOT a refuge. Unfortunately, NO overnight stays are possible this year. The nearest alpine hut with sleeping facilities is the BRENDLHÜTTE - please call in advance!
