Pfarre Gamlitz
GamlitzLived customs Customs and religion are deeply rooted in our parish life. During the year we pray for fertility, for a good harvest - for a good (wine) harvest we give heartfelt and sincere thanks. All liturgical celebrations that meet these demands are well attended: The blessing of the palm branches on Palm Sunday and the taking of the branches to spread in the home, stable and cellar; the "Einbetsonntag" at the end of August as thanksgiving for the absence of storms; the church harvest festival in the fall as a final celebration and thanksgiving for a hard year of work in the fields and in the orchards and vineyards.
Sunday in Gamlitz Yes, "Sunday" is still held in high esteem in the tourist community of Gamlitz. Going to church on Sundays is not only due to the 3rd commandment of the Lord ("You shall keep holy the Lord's day"), it also fulfills a social-communicative purpose. It's not just their two or three gathered around the altar in the name of the Lord, it's many small groups of people standing together in the church square talking after Mass. The worries and joys of the week are "lived through" once again in conversation.
