Sulmwasserfall
WiesThe white Sulm waterfall connects the source area of the White Sulm with its upper reaches. The upper course of the Sulm between Wernersdorf and the Wiel forms a canyon-like valley cut with steep valley flanks and a flat river section. At the end of the valley, the stream bed rises increasingly steeply and forms a steep step between about 900 m and 1050 m above sea level. Here the Weisse Sulm plunges 150 meters steeply over several rock steps. Its variety of shapes is particularly peculiar on stone tablets made of gneiss, which are polished and polished by the water freight.
About 17 million years ago the tensions in the earth's crust increased and the coral massif rose. Since then, the rivers have been cutting deep valleys into the underground, starting from the edge of the mountains and progressing westwards. The rock formations of the Koralm show different compositions. Structure and changing rock hardness. Wherever particularly weather-resistant rock formations occur, cliffs, rock castles, stoves and steep slopes form. In the area of the Sulm waterfall, a particularly hard gneiss train forms the subsoil and forms the Sulm waterfall, in which floods form a roaring cataract.
