Wolfgangikirche
Bad SchwanbergFind peace and recharge your batteries at the Wolfgangikirche in Hollenegg/Bad Schwanberg. The church offers an excellent panoramic view over the West Styrian hilly landscape and is probably one of the most popular lookout points of the whole Schilcherland.
The Wolfgangikirche was built in 1494, but was later reduced to the choir building that still exists today by removing the front arch. Inside the church there is an early baroque high altar. A coat of arms cartouche is dated 1675, the picture is said to date from 1640. The statues of St. Wolfgang and Urban are placed on side consoles. The Wolfgangikirche, as it is popularly called, is also very popular with pilgrims. There are several masses of the parish of Hollenegg during the year, with the second Sunday in July being the main date. On this occasion pilgrims come on foot from the near and far surroundings to the small church on the mountain. Since the felling of the forest around the church, it has become a symbol of the Christian faith, visible from almost the entire district of Deutschlandsberg. Strength, peace and no more backache - this is what a walk around the Wolfgangikirche in Hollenegg promises.
Rest at the Kreuzwehstein
The Kreuzwehstein is located about 800 meters west of the Wolfgangikirche in a forest. Hikers who pass by here stop in amazement. The stone, a conglomerate, has an indentation in the front. According to stories, people who are plagued by backache like to lean and rest here. Hence the name. The place is also suitable for gaining experience with nature. "If you stand in the niche, the sounds around you become more intense and tangible, as if you were standing in a shell." So, don't forget: when descending from the Wolfgangikirche, to look past the Kreuzwehstein, where you should lie down - maybe your back pain will get better, or you won't get any."
