From Vienna’s first It-Girl via Bluetooth to a Hollywood fate. – Schubert Theater (Austria)
Dreamlike and traumatic at once – the life of Viennese-born Hedwig Kiesler, who rose to fame in Hollywood. This tragicomedy tells the story of a woman with many faces: Hedwig Kiesler becomes Hedy Lamarr – style icon, film actress, madwoman and inventor, seductress, prisoner, victim and perpetrator all at once.
After a meteoric rise, the “most beautiful woman in the world” suffers a bitter downfall, publicly labeled as a criminal and mentally unstable. Worshipped for her unmatched looks, her intelligence is often overlooked. Bold and self-determined in love and in her choice of partners, she sees her self-worth fade with the loss of her beauty. Numerous cosmetic surgeries and her tireless reinventions ultimately lead to a betrayal of her own soul.
Hedy Lamarr is a face, a mask – at times even a grimace – behind which the truths of her life can only be guessed. A storyteller weaving fairytales from the threads of her own biography. She excels at playing both witch and princess, always casting herself in the lead role.
