Gnaser Nachtwächterrundgang
GnasExperience scary legends and exciting stories on the night watchman's tour through Gnas.
Eerie legends and exciting stories entwine themselves around the market town of Gnas, which was already mentioned in documents in the 13th century. Accompany the Gnas night watchman Günther von Jaegerberch on his nocturnal tour through the eerie streets and alleys of the village. Passionate storytelling and detailed knowledge of the local history and legends of the region are among the cornerstones of this special tour, which provides an entertaining insight into a time long gone!
One of the most important tasks of a night watchman was once the fire watch or the announcement of the full hours by means of a night watchman song. On June 15, 1822, a large fire broke out at four o'clock in the afternoon in the nail smithy of Niclas Seitz. By the evening, 55 burgher houses in Gnas had burned to the ground. Even today, the so-called memorial book of the model teacher Vinzenz Hartl, which is kept in the local history museum, reminds us of this black day in the history of Gnas.
The cultural association "Die Landsknechte zu Gnas" has enriched the club life of the community of Gnas since 2015. The Landsknechte accompany ecclesiastical and secular festivals in the annual cycle, provide guards of honor on special occasions and revive old, forgotten customs.
Starting from the JUFA Hotel in Gnas, the hike leads along the picturesque Kaskögerl hiking trail up to the Hofberg. At particularly charming vantage points, Günther von Jaegerberch tells exciting stories and legends from the Tatschkerland around Gnas. After a stop at the Obsthof Haas, we continue to the old thatched vintner's house or to the baroque castle of Poppendorf, where we conclude our hike.
Also very suitable for school classes.
