Music School & Gallery (Old Town Hall)
FürstenfeldIn 1569 (year above the entrance gate) Jonas von Wilfersdorf built the Freihaus as a replacement for a city tower he owned in the Klostergasse behind it, which was demolished in the course of the modern city fortifications. In 1651 the city acquired the building, which served as the town hall until 1848. After that it housed the District Court. In 1683 the explosion of the powder tower and in 1699 a storm caused serious damage to the house.
The building currently houses the Franz Schubert Music School and a gallery with regular exhibitions by various artists.
To the right of the entrance gate is a plaque commemorating a visit by Franz Schubert to Fürstenfeld in 1827.
