BurgauDirectly on the Lafnitz, a border guard house was rebuilt in 1995. These watchtowers once protected the border between Austria and Hungary that runs along the Lafnitz.
On the occasion of the exhibition "LABONCA - LAFNITZ" - Life at one of the oldest borders in Europe - in 1995, a border guard house, the Tschartake, was reconstructed directly on the Lafnitz. This thatched and palisade-secured watchtower once protected the border between Austria and Hungary that runs along the Lafnitz.
This border guard house - Tschartake - is located along the Kuruzzen hiking trail. This hiking trail also serves as a nature educational path, featuring informational panels about the flora and fauna of the hilly landscape, the significance of hedges, the ecology of the floodplain, the importance of traditional orchards, and the changes in the landscape due to cultivation.
