8-summit hike: From Frauenalpe to Kreischberg
A very long hike from the Frauenalpe to the Kreischberg, boasting outstanding views on alpine meadows and hiking trails, and particularly suitable for hikers with plenty of stamina.
This day hike requires some planning and is best started early in the day. Start your trip from the Murauerhütte (mountain hut) on the Frauenalpe, where you can park your car or get a lift. As the hike ends in a different town, please consider that your car will have to be picked up at a later time. The route passes through mostly tree-less terrain and has some wonderful panoramic views, but there is nowhere to stop for refreshment on the way, so please remember to pack enough provisions. There are serviced mountain huts on the Frauenalpe and the Kreischberg, but in between there is often hardly a soul to be seen. Having reached the first summit, you will go on to conquer a total of eight summits on a route that runs gently up and down. In clear weather, there is a wonderful panorama up to the Schladminger and Wölzer Tauern, the Wintertaler Nock and the Eisenhut. Once at Kreischberg, it is possible to ride down into the valley on the gondola lift (4pm at the latest, ONLY on opening days).

A very long hike from the Frauenalpe to the Kreischberg, boasting outstanding views on alpine meadows and hiking trails, and particularly suitable for hikers with plenty of stamina.Starting at the Murauerhütte on the Frauenalpe (1,583m), the route leads on to the Käsereihütte and the Bernhard Fest Hütte. From the mountain hut, continue to the summit of the Frauenalpe (1,997m). Caution: the route is marked with marking posts (red/yellow) up to the next signpost at the fence access. Passing the Murmelfelsen with cross, continue to the Troghütte via the Trogscharte peak and on to the Turnhoferhütte. From here, we walk on to the Ackerlhöhe and the Ursch. From this summit, the tour continues on the Seebodenhöhe and from there to the Schwarmbrunnhöhe peak. From here, the route continues to the Teringerloch and then the Prankerhöhe. This is the most striking peak in the tour. From the Prankerhöhe, we follow the route to the Schattloch and the Goldachnock (2,171m), the highest peak in the hike. From here, we continue on over the Seeriegel; the only point with views of the Hauserersee lake. Then it's on to the Kirbischhals and the Kirbisch. From here, the marked trail runs via a dip to the Rosenkranzhöhe. Now we hike along the ski slope to the Schirmbar on the Kreischberg and from here proceed downhill to the mountain station for the Kreischberg 6-seater gondola lift. To get to the valley town of St. Lorenzen/St. Georgen am Kreischberg, follow the hiking trail via the Rieglerhütte mountain hut on ÖAV Trail 130 or TVB Trail 3 (logging road marked red/yellow; 2.5 to 3 hours).
In summer, you can descend to St. Lorenzen am Kreischberg by gondola lift (during opening times).
