Ski tour "Notgasse"

The ski tour through the Notgasse is a spectacular and technically not difficult tour.
If you want to experience the wild expanse of the Dachstein massif in winter, you should consider this ski tour. The crossing is more than 20 kilometers long and leads from the Schladming Glacier over the "Am Stein" plateau through the historically significant Notgasse to the Öfen near Gröbming. Good route planning and a sense of direction are essential here.

Incidentally, the name is not derived from being in a difficult situation ("Not" means "distress"), but from 'Hnod' - the Celtic term for 'sacred fire'.

More information

From the west: Tauern Autobahn (A 10) to Knoten Ennstal - turnoff direction Graz/Schladming - stay on the Ennstal-Bundesstraße (B320) for approx. 20 km until Schladming - take the turnoff for Ramsau - via the Dachsteinstraße to the Dachstein Gondola Bottom Station

From the north: Pyhrn Autobahn (A 9)  direction Liezen - take the Ennstal-Bundesstraße (B320)  to Schladming - turnoff Ramsau - via the Dachsteinstraße to the Dachstein Gondola Bottom Station

Descent from the mountain station via the Schladming glacier below the disused Mitterstein chairlift (beautiful north-facing slopes) to the old valley station. From there, head eastwards through the hilly terrain (the Stoderzinken is the dominant signpost, the route is only partially marked with poles) - depending on the conditions, this is also possible without skins. You pass the dilapidated Lackenmoosalm and the unmanaged Schildenwangalm. Here you cross the impressive Notgasse with its historic rock paintings. If there is not enough snow or the conditions do not allow you to walk along the Notgasse, you can also bypass the gorge via a forest path. Below the Notgasse, follow the easy forest road to the rockfalls of the ovens near Gröbming. Here it is best to be picked up by a taxi if you have not parked a second vehicle beforehand.

In fresh snow or poor visibility, orientation is very difficult; if in doubt, a local mountain and ski guide should be consulted.

Another option
It is possible to take the Lackner Miesberg (2,232 m) as a summit. Skins are of course necessary here, so please allow for the additional time required.

The alpine emergency number in Austria is 140 (Europe 112).

If you have no network reception, please restart your phone. However, before you enter your PIN code for the SIM card, dial the emergency number. You can also make the emergency call in other networks.

From Schladming railway station, take bus no. 960 to the Dachstein Türlwandhütte stop.

Return transport from Gröbming to Schladming
It is best to park a second vehicle in the Lend or have a taxi pick you up.

Even though there are parking spaces at the Dachstein Cable-Car Station, it is recommended that you take the public bus from Schladming or Ramsau to use the gondola.

Of course, you will find many providers in Schladming and in Ramsau/Dachstein who will support you at the start of your ski touring career and teach you the right ascent and descent techniques, or who will take over your tour planning for more challenging undertakings and guide you safely through the high alpine terrain.
