The starting point is at the hikers' car park to the Bachlalm in Hauchau near Filzmoos at approx. 1,100 metres. From here, the tour leads for 5 kilometres directly along the hiking trail towards Bachlalm and on towards Sulzenhals. You follow the Pernerweg trail (no. 617) and reach the "Tor" (2,189 metres), the natural cut between Raucheck and Torstein. It is now a short, steep descent. This is followed by three imposing and impressive kilometres below the mighty Dachstein Südwänd to the Südwandhütte. From there, head towards the valley station of the Dachstein Gletscherbahn cable car.
Turn north-east and climb up to the Edelgrieß. After one kilometre you reach the steep step. Caution: crampons + ice axe may be necessary here. At kilometre 13 you are now at the highest point of the tour (2,527 m). From here, the route continues steadily downhill along hiking trail 618, past the Gruberscharte ridge, with the Guttenberghaus looming on your left. The last kilometre you cycle or walk downhill along a forest road and finally you have reached the end point of the route - the Feisterer car park.
To get back to the starting point, either take the bus or a taxi back to the car park, or take bus no. 960 (stop: Stierer) to the Dachstein valley station/Türlwandhütte and ski down over open terrain to the Bachlalm car park.
