Tobiasalm Kleinlobming

At the Tobiasalm you can still feel rustic hut atmosphere, as it is a small, rather inconspicuous hut with a wonderful view.
In the municipality of Lobmingtal with about 1800 inhabitants there are numerous and traditional inns, but only one "real" alpine hut, the small hut on the Tobiasalm in Kleinlobming. The way there is only partially marked, but with the directions it is easy to find. The hut is open Wednesday to Sunday and on public holidays. The hut exudes a very special charm and is also rather unknown among the local population. As an alternative to the hike, you can take the car in the direction of Oberkamper and start hiking at the parking lot, which is located near the access road. From here you walk about 40 minutes to the hut.

Tour corresponds to path no. 46 on signposts on site and in the regional hiking map.

More information

From St. Michael in Obersteiermark via Murtal Schnellstraße S36 (vignette required) to Knittelfeld (24 km, approx. 20 minutes) and further to Kleinlobming (total 35 km, approx. 30 minutes).

From Judenburg via provincial roads to Kleinlobming (20 km, approx. 30 minutes).

Tour corresponds to trail no. 46 on signposts on site and in the regional hiking map.

From the village center in Kleinlobming (1), 759 m, we walk along the asphalt road into the valley. We follow the red-white-red markings with trail no. 525 in the direction of Naturfreundehaus Steinplan. After about 1.4 km we pass the former Glatz inn and keep left at the next intersection. Passing the parking lot (2), 820 m, we continue slightly uphill until we reach the crossroads, where we turn right towards Oberkamper. After about 400 m we see on the left side a yellow signpost with the inscription "Naturfreundehaus Steinplan 1670 m", which is placed directly on a cliff. Here we leave the road and hike continuously slightly uphill for about 1.4 km, following the forest road along the stream. Shortly before we reach a small wooden house on the right, an inconspicuous, partly overgrown forest path branches off to the right. Here we cross the stream and then walk slightly uphill until we reach an asphalt road with a parking possibility. In the immediate vicinity we see downhill the access road to the Tobiasalm. Now we go straight on for about 1 km, past two junctions, until the access road makes a sharp right turn. Here we follow the main path to the right and after about 700 m we arrive at the Tobiasalm (3), 1277 m. The way back is via the ascent route.

Unlike the other hiking trails in Kleinlobming, this trail is barely marked at all.
The nearest train station is Knittelfeld. From here take bus line 847, to Großlobming or Kleinlobming. Please note that on weekends and during vacation periods this line has very limited availability. Here you can cover the 5 km to Großlobming or 11 km to Kleinlobming with a regional cab company - directly available at Knittelfeld train station. If you stay overnight in one of the accommodation facilities, they also very often offer a pick-up service from the train station.
