Around the Eppenstein Ruin

Explore historic paths on your hike to the Eppenstein ruins and enjoy the wonderful view between the old walls, which could tell volumes of stories from long-forgotten times.

From the Eppenstein parking lot, the ascent to the ruins is either via the signposted path via Falmoar or directly by the shorter, also signposted path through the forest. The castle ruins of Eppenstein are still in a very attractive condition thanks to the commitment and time spent by the castle association for maintenance. From the ruins there is an incomparable view over the Mur valley.

Via Vordersieding and Mühldorf the route passes the Sattler recreational facility to Weißkirchen.

From the center of Weißkirchen the way back leads to Eberdorf. The whole way you enjoy a great view of the castle ruins until you reach the Eppenstein.

Coming from Vienna: S36 Murtal expressway - exit Zeltweg West - traffic circle direction Obdach B78 - at the traffic circle at Weißkirchen - follow exit Weißkirchen.

Coming from Klagenfurt: A2 Südautobahn - exit Bad St. Leonhard - follow B78 Obdacher Bundesstraße - at the traffic circle at Weißkirchen - exit Weißkirchen

From direction Gaberl: B77 Gaberl federal road - in the village Weißkirchen

Follow the classic circular hiking trail 324, red/white/red markings, as far as the Eppenstein ruin.

From the Eppenstein ruin follow the signposts in the direction of Weißkirchen.

To fortify yourself during the tour, it is worth making a detour to the Korer cider tavern. From the ruin you are there in ~30 min. on well-marked paths.

This tour is NOT considered "accessible by train and bus" because there is no regular connection.
