Behind the baroque facades of Rein Abbey lies an important Gothic heritage that is waiting to be discovered by you. The special guided tour ‘Gothic in Rein Abbey’ offers you the opportunity to experience medieval Rein from a new perspective.
Under expert guidance, you will explore the Gothic Chapel of the Holy Cross, which impresses with the reconstruction of its old stained glass windows. Another highlight is the Reiner Madonna from the 14th century, a masterpiece of sculpture. You can also visit the artistically designed tombstone of Duke Ernst the Iron, which bears witness to the eventful history of the monastery.
Special attention is also paid to the medieval manuscripts and their magnificent illuminations, which provide an insight into the monastery's art of writing.
