Immerse yourself in the fascinating history of Rein Abbey in Styria and get to know the abbots who not only shaped monastic life, but also worked as master builders and politicians.
On Saturday, 5 July & 18 October at 14:00, Rein Abbey invites you to a special guided tour. Almost 60 abbots have worked at the monastery in its 900-year history. Some of them left lasting traces through their building activities and political commitments.

- Abt Gerlach: The founding abbot of the 12th century laid the foundation stone for monastic life in Rein.
- Abbot Ludwig von Plankenwarth: In the 13th century, he promoted the construction of the pilgrimage church Maria Straßengel, one of the most important Gothic buildings in Styria.
- Abbot Placidus Mally: In the 18th century, he initiated baroque building projects that still characterise the appearance of the monastery today.
- Abbot Angelus Manse: At the beginning of the 15th century, he served Duke Ernst the Iron as secretary and court chaplain and was an important political advisor.
